Make It Pop!
That first impression is critical with potential buyers and your newly listed home. Psychologists would tell you that people often make up their minds about a person within the first 30 seconds of meeting someone. I will tell you that most potential homebuyers will make up their mind about your home before they’ve even walked through the front door. Sure, they’ve seen pictures and the basic listing information so they have an idea, but if that first impression doesn’t live up to how they’ve built the home up in their mind, it’s going to be a tough sell.
Whether you are thinking about selling your home or not, the top 5 things you should do to make that powerful first impression come from the same list that you should be doing almost every spring regardless. Now is the perfect time to take a look at that list and see what needs to be done to help maintain your home or prepare it to sell.
- Pressure wash the outside of the home, clean, caulk, and seal windows and joints and paint if necessary. Keeping the outside clean, sealed, and protected not only helps the home look nice, but it adds life to the home and helps protect the inside.
- Clean up and improve the landscaping. It is time to remove and replace any dead vegetation, prune the bushes, remove weeds, trim and edge the lawn, and plant bright new flowers. Showing a potential buyer that you take care of your lawn and garden shows them that you take care of the home.
- Make the front entry POP! Be bold! Put some contrasting color on the door. Select a navy door for a beige home, a red door for a darker brown home, a purple door for a gray home, or a yellow door for a navy home. The point is to not be afraid and to make the home stand out.
- Pressure wash and stain or paint the fence. Do everything you can reasonably do to make it look like a new fence.
- Remove any clutter. Gardening tools, cleaning items, trashcans, vehicles, and trailers should be out of sight.
Doing these 5 items will help build the strong first impression you need in order to bring in the kind of offers you want to see when selling your home.
